Elf Lake
Ever wondered how Elf Lake got its name? The story is as simple as it is nostalgic. When we first acquired the Les Quis site, a wire fence separated the Old Lake from what would later become Elf Lake. Hanging on the fence was a weathered sign that read “Elf,” a nod to the iconic fuel company many of you might remember. And just like that, Elf Lake was born.
A Unique Fishing Experience
At approximately 8.5 acres with an average depth of 10 feet, Elf Lake offers a fishing experience steeped in character. Its bottom is a blend of fine sand and gravel, much like the other lakes in the complex. Now over 50 years old, Elf Lake boasts deep, tree-lined margins, with banks often undercut—providing carp with the perfect hiding spots away from anglers’ lines.
Fishing tight to these margins can deliver exceptional results, rewarding patience and precision with memorable catches.
Low-Density Fishing for Specimen Hunters
As the smallest lake in the Les Quis complex, Elf Lake features six swims, but only five anglers are permitted to fish it at any time. This thoughtful approach maintains its low-density, relaxed atmosphere and ensures a fair distribution of space.
Two swims at the far end of the lake overlap slightly, and during the swim draw on arrival, the first selection between these two determines which one will remain open. Full details will be provided in the swim descriptions and during the draw.
Not a Runs Water – A Specimen Lake
Elf Lake stands apart from the other lakes in that it is not a typical runs water. Instead, it’s quickly earning a reputation as the complex’s premier specimen lake, ideal for those seeking to target larger, more elusive carp.
If you’re after a challenging yet deeply rewarding fishing experience, Elf Lake is the perfect choice.
There are approximately 150 carp in the Elf Lake. The carp go to 69lb plus, and a good amount of 50lb plus carp, which include some very large upper fifty-pound commons. There is also a massive head of 40lb-plus carp; in fact, you will be VERY lucky to catch one under 30lb!!!
This is very much the serious carp angler’s lake, a magnificent carp lake that will be doing 70lb plus fish in the very near future.
There are some very large Wells catfish in the Elf, and there was one caught in the past that was over nine feet long!!!!. So don’t be surprised if you hook something that destroys you.
